I am Monika Mathivanan and I am presently a stay at home mom. I have completed my Masters of Engineering in the Water Resources Management from Anna University in India. We relocated to Canada in the year 2018, living in Oakville. We love Oakville and go for walks in the trail during our free time. I love to cook, learn new things and to explore new places!

Our elder daughter is in Grade 5 at Sunningdale P.S. and our younger one has started JK at Montclair P.S. Our kids are the first generation in our family who are going to school in Canada with a different education system than their parents. So we are new to this education system and community. My best and basic reasons to join the parent council are that I will able to learn what’s happening in the school proactively. I hope I can share my opinions and make meaningful contributions to discussions. I can build relationships with the staff and community. I wanted to get connected and I believe being involved with my child’s school bridges the gap between home and school. So, I think School Council could be a good step in that direction.

Sunningdale P.S. is trying very hard to ensure parents are informed and have many channels of communication, but being on Council has been the single most effective way for me to know not only what’s going on with school events and activities, but what challenges the school is facing, what victories they are celebrating, and to get a feel for the culture of the school.
